Policy Research for a Foundation

Client Challenge

The Chennai-based foundation engaged us to develop a policy paper on measures needed to promote millet-based enterprises. Millets a group of cereal crops, are considered “Miracle grains” as they can grow in drought conditions and are a rich source of protein and fiber.

Our approach

Study of existing policies on millets, as well as policies for other Agri products such as coffee, cashews

Interaction with over 20 millet enterprises across the value chain including dehullers, millet-based product manufacturers, research institutions, millet consumers, etc.

Impact

We understood that quality control and marketing remain the key issues faced by such enterprises

Recommended measures such as exclusive millet processing zones,  millet quality related certifications and setting up a central millet body on the lines of coffee board.
